Hello! Welcome to Kindergarten! I am very excited to spend the year with your child. Please check your child's starbook every night. Papers on the Home side can be kept at home and anything on the School side needs to be returned to school. We are starting to learn our letters and eventually we will introduce our Alphafriends. Please spend time reviewing letters, sounds and numbers with your child. We will also start learning our colors and shapes: circle, square, rectangle, triangle, oval and rhombus (diamond). It would be great if you could help your child learn their birthday, days of week and months of the year. I know it will be hard, but please try to help your child learn to tie their shoes. It is tough at first, but they will do it. READ, READ, READ and READ some more, please read every night with your child. They love it and it provides so many great benefits for them. If you have not done so, please send an extra set of clothes to school with your child. Please put them into a bag labeled with their name. Accidents do happen and this way we will be prepared. Parents, please label all of your child's belongings: backpacks, hat, jackets, boots, snowpants, etc. with their name.
If there is ever a need or concern that you would like to discuss, call me at the school or you can email me hburridge@masd.info or you can send a note in your child's starbook (I check them every morning).
Please continue to check this page, I will keep it up to date with information.
Best Wishes for the year,

Hello everyone!! I hope you and your child are having a great time in Kindergarten, I know I am. I wanted to give you a few tips on things that your child can be practicing at home:
Shapes- Have your child look around his/her environment for different shapes also encourage them to recite the shape poems.
Colors- Our world is full of colors, encourage your child to tell you different colors. Ask them questions about it, is it a dark shade, light shade, does it remind them of something else. An example might be strawberry red. Also practice the letters in the color words.
Beginning sounds- Give your child a word and encourage them to tell you the beginning sound and letter of the word. Example bat /b/ and b.
Letter recognition & Letter writing- Encourage your child to sing the ABC's and ask them to recognize different letters in print. You can use books, magazine, etc. Also allow your child to practice writing their letters, this will be very beneficial.
Name- Your child writes their name on each paper they complete, please encourage them to practice making sure their name starts with a Big buddy (capitol) letter and the rest of their name should be Little Buddy (lower-case)letters.
Numbers- We have recently started counting and writing our numbers. Encourage your child to count random objects and practice writing the numbers that go with them. We have a song for each number and your child is learning them, please ask them to sing it to you.
** I will be sending home a paper that has all of the alphabet, how I would like them to write the letters and how I would like their name to be written.
**If there is anything you want to work with your child on and do not have the materials, please contact me and I will get them to you. |
