Junior and Senior High School:

Learn More – Do More – Be More

About:

Welcome to the Montrose Area Jr/Sr High School website! I would like to encourage you to take a look around the site, as we try to continually add and update information and resources for students and families. In particular, I would like to point out the resources listed under the students tab, including those related to suicide and bullying prevention. The district utilizes an anonymous reporting tool for bullying-related concerns, and the Safe2Say link on the district home page can also be utilized for a variety of safety concerns. There is also a great deal of information regarding our student attendance policy and procedures under the Parents tab, as well as copies of all attendance-related forms and excuse slips under the handbooks links. Did you know that you can email or text excuses, bus notes, etc. right to attendance@masd.info? Just make sure they contain a parent signature and the date. Attendance looks and feels a bit different this year with added health precautions, so your communication with us is even more important than ever. Please be sure your contact information is up to date with the school district and that you are receiving One Call Now notifications.

Mr. Terry Whalen is our new Assistant Principal and we are happy to have him on board as one of the newest members of our Meteor Family! Mr. Whalen and I want you to know that we are committed to providing all our students with a safe, academically challenging and personally rewarding experience here at MAHS. Our high school motto is “Learn More – Do More – Be More” and we all work with students every day to help them accomplish these goals. We are proud to offer a wide variety of classes, activities and athletic programs, and are honored to be a part of this school community’s proud history.

We are pleased to announce that the Montrose Area Jr/Sr High School has been named a 2019 and 2020 US News and World Report Best High School! This annual ranking is based on our grade 9-12 academic success, graduation rate and ‘college readiness’ score. While we are excited to have the hard work of our students and teachers recognized, this is just the tip of the iceberg! We are committed to continual improvement and will work to move forward to make sure the needs of all students are met, particularly those related to a rapidly evolving job market. The introduction of Project Lead the Way courses at the Junior and now Senior High level, a Career Exploration 45-day rotation for 8th graders, Cybersecurity and Advanced Foods and Nutrition electives and updates to our 9th grade rotation to include greater emphasis on personal finance are just some of our recent improvements. With over 20 courses available for Dual Enrollment, we are committed to helping our students take a confident next step after graduation!

A meaningful education requires a partnership between school, community and family, and we look forward to expanding our relationship and level of communication with families and the community. With that in mind, whether a student, parent, community member or local business or agency, don’t ever hesitate to contact Mr. Whalen or myself with suggestions, concerns and ideas. Encourage our students to get involved, try something new and, above all, Just Be Nice! Thank you for supporting the Montrose Area Jr/Sr High School!

Sincerely,
